While there he was a Eucharistic minister and lector for St. In 1984 he and Doris fulfilled another life-long dream of building their retirement home on Old Mission Peninsula in Traverse City, MI. Some of the many organizations he was involved with include Quiet Birdman, Daedalians, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Air Force Association, Reserve Officers Association, and past president of WBCCI of MI unit Airstream Travel Club. An avid athlete his whole life, he ran in three Chicago marathons, was a lifetime member of the Handball Association, a Golden Glove boxer, and ran and walked in many other races for charity. He retired from the Air Force as a full Colonel in 1972 and moved to Barrington, IL to work for the FAA as an Airport Safety Inspector. He flew the General all over the world as well as many dignitaries. Bud and Doris lived in Alaska for seven years where he was the pilot for the General of the Alaskan Air Command. His life-long passion to be a pilot was fulfilled when he joined the Air Force. He married his high school sweetheart, Doris Jean Schestag, on June 12, 1947. After four years in the Marines, he was in the Michigan National Guard in Grand Rapids. At age 17 he joined the Marine Corps to fight in World War II. He grew up in Grand Rapids and attended Catholic Central High School and Creston High School. He was adopted by Charles Arnold "Shorty" Quick. Bud was born in Grand Rapids on April 29, 1925. ![]() Ahria Quick, Jana Quick, as well as eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He will be lovingly remembered by Doris, his wife of 60 years, and their children, Susan Alan Schneider, Chad Leone Quick, K.J. Bud Quick, aged 82, of Grand Rapids, died Thursday, November 29, 2007, peacefully with his family by his side.
